Area of Study and Research

ZHANG WEIstudies ancient Mediterranean culturesthough the textual sources, especially from the Ancient Greek Epics. His research focuses on two areas: first, comparative mythology, especially cosmogonies and narratives about the gods inNear Easternand Greek traditions; and, second,Cross-Cultural exchange in the ancient Mediterranean, especially the intersections among Greek, Phoenician, and other cultures around the Mediterranean.
